Powick Community Choir 

Bursary for a Young Musician 2026

Purpose

To support young musicians to develop their musical career. 

Eligibility

Applicants should:

  • Be aged between 14 and 25 years old
  • Be intent on pursuing music as a career or have music as a significant part of their life.
  • Whilst formal music examinations are not necessary it is expected that the applicant will be at the equivalent of grade 4 or above in vocal or instrumental studies.

Value of Award 

  • Up to £1000 to be paid either in instalments or as a lump sum depending on circumstances.

Application Requirements

To apply please write a letter including all of the details listed here.  You may include a CV if you choose. 

  • Personal details: name, address, date of birth, email address and phone number.
  • Examinations / Qualifications.
  • Details of musical studies / career, future plans, voluntary work undertaken.
  • Name and contact details of a recent music teacher who will provide a reference. 
  • Details of any recent performances.
  • Reasons for applying for the bursary and what it would be used for
  • Explanation of why music is important to you.

Closing date for applications: 16th June 2026

The bursary committee led by the Committee Chair and Musical Director / Composer in Residence will consider all applications.  

Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an audition and interview in July. 

 

Further information:

The successful applicant will be expected to provide regular updates during the year and take part in at least one of the choir’s concerts during the year. 

This is a bursary for one year however the successful applicant will be eligible to apply again in future years.
