Frequently Asked Questions
Q Where and when do you meet?
A We meet on a Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:15 and a Sunday from 4:15 to 5:45. There is no requirement to attend both rehearsals: however, many members do. We rehearse in Powick Village Hall
Q What experience do I need?
A Previous choral experience or the ability to read music would be an advantage but not essential.
Q What sort of music do you sing?
A We sing an eclectic range of music from choral classic to music from stage and screen. We also enjoy singing music written by our Musical Director and we perform regularly with a professional orchestra.
Q How often do you perform?
A We perform annually a run of 6 Christmas concerts over 4 nights at Stanbrook Abby, Callow End to sell-out audiences. We aim to have a performance to work for every term, ranging from Local churches and village halls to singing choral Evensong in venues including Worcester and Gloucester Cathedral, with our 2023 venue being St Georges Chapel, Windsor Castle. On occasions we perform at weddings and hope to start performing at local events such as The Three Counties show and Malvern Pride amongst others.
Q How much will it cost me?
A Currently choir subscriptions are £120 a year which can be paid in 3 instalments. January, April and September.
Q What if I don’t know what “voice “I am?
A Don’t let that put you off coming and trying us out. You can move between sections until you find what is comfortable for you.
Q Will I need to audition?
A We do not hold auditions to join us. However, on occasions you may be asked to sing alone if you want to be considered for a solo in any of the numbers.
Q What do you wear to perform?
A You will need to provide the following:
Women: Black top and black trousers or long black skirt or long black dress.
Men: Dress suit or black suit with white shirt.
We will provide you with a blue scarf (women) or bow tie and cummerbund (Men) for which you will be responsible.
Q Are there any other costs for being a member of the choir?
A A £25 deposit is payable when you receive your music library and choir uniform (Bows and bow ties). This is returned when you leave the choir on safe return of your music and uniform. Occasionally we run a coach to certain performances and you may be asked to contribute towards the cost.
